How people in LA see Bakersfield

April 26, 2014

While I was taking the photo of the garden here at the Getty Villa, the guy behind me was describing Bakersfield to his parents. I guess he had had to go there on business.
His description was quite colorful: it is a “horrific shithole” and “like Compton for white people”. He mentioned the movie “There Will Be Blood”. He described the people in Bakersfield as drug addicted inbred hillbillies. He went on and on.
He finished by thanking God he lived in this side of the hill. Laughter all around. It was a white family, by the way.
I bit my tongue and said nothing.

How interesting you happened to overhear this conversation. The moral of the story is be careful what you say in public. This is a small world after all.

    Love, Mom

  2. People like that are just snobs. No place or the people in it should be judged as a whole by a few they may of encountered or whatever neg experience they had here. And def nothing should be labeled or judged either. As its not our place in life. Those that think they are better then others just because bako is different, says more about them then it does the people or place they are talking of.
