The horror, the horror….
In a God-forsaken rural area of Iowa, a group of mentally disbled men were held as modern-day slaves. They were paid $65.00 a month, rarely allowed to leave their isolated homes, forced to work 10 and a half hours a day, lived in horrific conditions, subject to untreated illnesses and conditions, and physically beaten for poor performance by overseers. Their barracks were filled with roaches and mice, their bodies were racked with pain and illness, they were malnourished and underfed, and they were not allowed to leave.
They lived like this for decades.
This is not some ancient history from 1814. It is from now.
