The final death spiral of the City Opera

October 5, 2013

The poor New York City Opera has been in it’s death throes for some time. It finally just declared bankruptcy and threw in the towel. It is sad. It is hard to keep civic-minded institutions afloat. There are just a lot of hard choices to be made, and none of them are free from risk.

They probably had tremendous competition from the NY Met. The Met must be doing great based upon the popularity of their filmed live performances. I am going to see the second opera in a series of ten tomorrow.. I saw the first one also on my birthday. The quality of the films is excellent and translations are provided in various languages. You might check it out at Edwards theater sometime on a Saturday morning. At least that was when they were showing when I was in Bako.
