Behold the amazing power of chamber music!
Hey, those classical guys had some great ideas! With just four musicians: cello, two violins, and a viola, you can produce awe-inspiring beauty. Check out the Vitamin String Quartet’s version of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. It’s completely transformed from the original. The rowdy, angry tone of the Nirvana version has been transformed into the heartbreaking sadness of the Quartet’s version. It’s funny: the sadness was in the music all along. It was just hidden. It is like a jeweler recutting a diamond into a new shape to give it totally different facets: the new shape was in the potential of the diamond all along. And both diamonds are beautiful, different, and yet somehow share essential similarities.
Classical music has lasted for hundreds of years because it can bring out the beauty in any kind of music.
