The tattoo report

November 21, 2012

I haven’t mentioned any tattoos for a long time. I see dozens everyday, but the majority is pretty cliche stuff: devil horns, tribal, barbed wire, gang stuff, the usual.
But lately I have seen a few pieces I admire. A woman today had the image of the Hawaiian island chain on her face and forehead. Very original, and shows her pride in her ancestry.
A guy I saw recently had tears flowing from both eyes. It wasn’t the stylized schlocky few tears dripping from a corner, but rather realistic tear drops pouring out and covering his face. Now that is going all out.
A woman had a full movement of bar and clef sheet music on her arm. I didn’t have the nerve to ask what piece it represented.
And lastly, sometimes creativity is overrated: sometimes a simple declarative phrase carries a lot of power. A heavy set woman was wearing a low cut t-shirt to court. On her chest was tattooed two simple words in capital letters: FUCK YOU. Simple, clear, powerful and versatile in many situations, including a court appearance.
